COMPUTER ANIMATION ON LOCAL TV: Ober Da Bakod GOES HI-TECH
The Philippine Star, August 1, 1995

Two weeks ago, GMA's Ober da Bakod amazed local viewers with a high-tech episode that featured special effects for the first time on local TV. Tonight, the sitcom goes overboard on 3-D special effects as it features as a special guest: a computer-generated character called "Bakal Boy" (Chrome Man). Thus, this episode features the very first interactive character animation ever seen on Philippine TV.

For the first time on the local screen, viewers will see a computer generated character interacting with live characters of the show. Storm Visualization & Imaging, the special effects team behind the episode, made a very realistic rendition of the chrome man, similar to the metallic character in the movie The Terminator. As a special guest, the chrome man acts as Don Robert's (Leo Martinez) bodyguard and at the same time becomes Kasuy (Manilyn Reynes) and Honey Grace's (Gelli de Belen) friend.

Viva Television's production of Ober Da Bakod "Bakal Boy" (Chrome Man) was the very first (August 1995) Philippine-made computer-generated 3D character to interact with "live" actors. Bakal Boy's entire body reflected the environment and the actual action of the actors.
Bakal Boy gets frightened from the screams of Honey Grace (Gelli de Belen, center) and Kasuy (Manilyn Reynes). Storm completed a total of 6 minutes of CGI effect shots in 10 days running on a single Pentium-90.
Kasuy and Honey Grace are have a big crush on Bakal Boy.
